Second round of public hearings in relation to a new international instrument on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response

WHEN: 29-30 September

WHAT: The second round of public hearings in relation to a new international instrument on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response will open on Thursday, 29 September.

The WHO Secretariat is conducting public hearings to inform the deliberations of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) to draft and negotiate a WHO convention, agreement or other international instrument on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response, as mandated by the World Health Assembly at its special session in December 2021.  The first round of public hearings was held on 12 and 13 April 2022.

For this second round of public hearings (29-30 September 2022), interested parties were invited to submit a video statement (of up to 90 seconds, accompanied by a transcript) in response to the following question:

“Based on your experience with the COVID-19 pandemic, what do you believe should be addressed at the international level to better protect against future pandemics?”

A randomized selection of the video submissions received will be broadcast as follows:

·         29 September: 09.00-12.00 CEST (Geneva time)

·         30 September: 18.00-21.00 CEST (Geneva time)
